Belgobon, Uncompromising on Sustainability

In the bustling sector of event catering in Brussels, a small handful of committed providers stand out with new convictions. Among them is Belgobon, a Schaerbeek-based catering service founded by Juliette Heene and Corentin De Dryver. With a credo of organic, local, and 100% homemade cuisine, these two chefs are shifting the paradigm by envisioning more sustainable and waste-free events.

Event Services, Deliveries, and a Physical Counter

Launched in 2012, Belgobon has already had several lives. A recognized restaurant in Saint-Gilles from 2012 to 2014, Belgobon transformed into a catering service from 2015, “for reasons of lifestyle rhythms.” Quickly, the small team proved capable of handling family or business events for dozens or even hundreds of people. To keep up with its development, the brand moved in 2018 and set up its kitchens in Schaerbeek. Larger premises allowed it to complement its offering with corporate meal deliveries. Overwhelmed but not defeated during the Covid crisis, Juliette and Corentin rolled up their sleeves and opened a sales counter on Gustave Latinis Avenue in Schaerbeek at the end of 2020. Open 5 days a week, this physical sales point has since become “the guiding thread of Belgobon’s activity.”

Organic, Local, and Homemade: The 3 Hallmarks of Belgobon

Clearly, in the food business, sourcing often makes the difference. On this point, Belgobon’s positioning is very clear: all preparations are 80% organic certified by Certisys, “even though technically we always exceed 90%.” To achieve this, Juliette and Corentin primarily source short-circuit from Belgian producers, “which also guarantees perfect traceability of ingredients.” Trout from Bigh, artisanal cheeses from Bergerie de Wavreumont, eggs from Ferme du Censier… the two graduates of the Namur hotel school want to showcase the best of Belgium, season by season. Another notable specificity, here nothing is outsourced, everything is homemade: “we are cooks first and foremost.”

“We love our profession as chefs. That’s why we mainly work with seasonal products and those from Belgian terroirs.”

The First Bicycle Caterer in Brussels

Demanding in the quality of its raw materials, Belgobon is also so in the ecological impact of its supply chain. To this end, the company became the first bicycle caterer in Brussels in 2023. A commitment with substantial ecological benefits since “with 4 cargo bikes, we emit 21 times less CO2 than an event managed with two vans.” This original solution also allows them to engage in “live cooking,” meaning cooking on-site and on-demand, “which significantly reduces waste when there are fewer guests than expected.” In their perpetual search for ecological virtue, Belgobon also uses as much reusable tableware as possible, transforms damaged tablecloths into napkins, and even encourages its clients to prefer tap water over bottles because “transporting volumes of water makes no sense today.” The next step is integrating green energy into their production process. The story of Belgobon is far from over.

Belgobon is:

  • Catering events for 20 to 600 people: from cooking to logistics, including service and the technical needs related to various locations and the desires of their clients,
  • Meal deliveries for businesses and individuals,
  • A catering counter for takeaway preparations at 25 Gustave Latinis Avenue in Schaerbeek, open 5/7 from 11 am to 7 pm.
