A 900-square-meter immersive and interactive space entirely dedicated to the world of Belgian fries and their star ingredient: the potato.
Frietmuseum Brussels is a fun, educational, and food-focused museum that takes visitors on a journey through the history, culture, and traditions of this iconic Belgian dish. Through more than 1,600 collection items, vintage posters, interactive games, films, and testimonials from fry chefs, you’ll discover not only the history of the potato but also the evolution of the French fry over time, as well as the secrets to cooking them to perfection.
Spanning three floors, the audio-guided tour (available in 11 languages) begins in Peru, the birthplace of the potato, before taking you on a world tour tracing the history of its cultivation in South America and Europe.
Halfway through, head to Frietland, a space entirely dedicated to Belgian fries. Here, traditions, folklore, and amusing anecdotes reveal the art of the Belgian fry. The tour concludes with a demonstration of authentic Belgian fries, cooked to perfection. In exchange for your audio guide, you’ll receive a small cone of fries cooked either in traditional Belgian beef fat or in vegetable oil.
Visitors can capture their visit by taking photos of themselves in a fry shop, harvesting potatoes on a tractor, or next to XXL-sized specialties.
